4th Grade- Tsongas Industrial Center (Husson, Cheverie Thompson)
Description
TSONGAS INDUSTRIAL HISTORY CENTER
Fourth grades students travel to the mills on the Merrimack River in Historic Lowell to weave their own cloth on handlooms and inspect a cotton gin and power loom to identify how changes in technology affected work on plantations and in factories. They also explore the boardinghouse to find out how Lowell’s “mill girls” spent their leisure time and what their “home” life was like. This wonderful hands-on field trip helps the students to fully understand the Industrial Revolution.
